Clearing a blocked main drain and investigating the cause in Camp Hill
A tenant in a Camp Hill home reported a blocked downstairs toilet. When fixtures upstairs were used, the water level in the downstairs toilet rose. Our assessment confirmed a blockage in the property's main drainage line.
We cleared the blockage with high-pressure water jetting, then used a CCTV drain camera to investigate the pipe's condition. The inspection identified a low point and calcified build-up along the bottom of the drain. We removed the build-up, checked the drain again and tested the internal fixtures before handing over.

Why the assessment mattered
The tenant initially suspected wet wipes might have been flushed. That was a reported possibility, rather than a confirmed cause.
The upstairs fixtures affecting the downstairs toilet prompted an assessment of the drainage line. Inspection through a drain access point confirmed that the blockage was in the main line. This finding guided our choice of equipment: high-pressure jetting to clear the drain and a CCTV camera to investigate it once access was restored. A blockage confined to the toilet itself would have called for a different approach.
Clearing the blockage and inspecting the pipe
We first jetted the drain to clear the blockage. With the line accessible, the camera inspection revealed a low point in the pipe and calcified deposits on its base. The rough build-up provided a surface where waste could catch.
We used a targeted chemical treatment to break down the deposits, followed by further high-pressure jetting to remove the loosened build-up. The accompanying video shows stages of the drain access, jetting and camera inspection equipment used on the job.
For an explanation of the different equipment, read how drain cameras, locators and jetters are used.
Checking the result
We completed a final CCTV inspection to check the cleared section and accessible downstream drain. Flow was restored, and no further downstream issue was identified in the section inspected at that visit.
We also tested the internal fixtures to confirm they were working correctly, then packed up and washed down the work area.
Explaining what remained
Cleaning removed the blockage and build-up, but it did not change the low point in the pipe. We explained that this remaining condition could contribute to future blockages.
We offered replacement of the affected drain section or an ongoing maintenance approach. These options were referred to the property owner to decide how to proceed. Neither option forms part of the completed clearing work described here.
The tenant approved and paid for the drain-clearing work. Our aim was to restore use of the fixtures and provide clear information about the condition found, so the owner could make an informed decision about the next step.
Need help with a blocked drain?
Tell us which fixtures are affected and whether using one causes water to rise elsewhere. We assess the problem, explain the proposed work and provide an upfront fixed-price quote for the agreed scope before starting. Any additional paid investigation is explained and quoted separately for approval.
